Best TV Shows 2025: The 20 Shows We’re Most Excited for Next Year
If your New Year’s resolution is to watch the best TV shows of 2025, welcome. You’re in the right place. After the 2023 strike slowed Hollywood down, 2024 was able to give us a few exciting new shoes (English Teacher! Nobody Wants This!), and the industry is really picking up steam for 2025.
Below, you’ll find 20 of the most anticipated new series of 2025, plus the returns of a few more, the kinds of shows that have us biting our nails to the quick between episodes and going absolutely mad between seasons.
There’s a new comedy from Mindy Kaling, a new drama from Shonda Rhimes, and oh yeah, Severance is finally back from vacation. We haven’t had a new episode of the sci-fi hit since literally April 2022. So get your streamer log-ins ready and your comfy pants on, because these new shows demand your full attention. Tis the reason for the television season.

We’re not sure if that’s the title of the series or if it’s actually untitled, because we basically don’t know anything about the show except that it’s going to premiere this year and there’s at least one scene where Rachel flashes the Scientology Celebrity Center. Also, Leighton Meester is in it!

Premiering January 2, this limited series takes a Chernobyl-like look at another 20th-century disaster: the 1988 explosion of Pan Am Flight 103. Colin Firth stars as a man on the search for the truth behind the tragedy.

The witch is back. Anne Rice’s Mayfair witches, to be specific. Alexandra Daddario returns as Rowan Mayfair, who is on a journey to fulfill her destiny of becoming a healer.
5/20Shifting Gears, ABC
Kat Dennings and Tim Allen return to the multi-cam format in this sitcom about an estranged father and daughter who repair their relationship while repairing cars together. Premieres January 8.

The Traitors, Season Three, Peacock
The smash hit reality competition is back on January 9 with a fresh batch of traitorous players including Gabby Windey, Nikki Garcia, Rob Mariano, and Bob the Drag Queen.

Troian Bellisario returns to television in Law & Order creator Dick Wolf’s first series built for streaming. The series is described as a tense half-hour drama about Long Beach cops that takes on the “found footage” format, using a mix of dashcams, bodycams and cell phone footage. All eight episodes will be streaming January 9.

Michelle Williams and Jay Duplass costar as a married couple whose lives are turned inside out when Molly (Williams) discovers she has breast cancer and decides that she wants to spend her remaining time exploring sexuality in all its forms.

Premiering January 22, the new thriller series is about, uh, math? It’s eight episodes and sounds like A Beautiful Mind meets The Bourne Identity, and we’re pretty stoked for it.
13/20The Couple Next Door, Starz
Is it Big Little Lies, You, or something in between? This six-part juicy thriller follows affluent neighbors whose interests begin to stray from home…though not too far. Premieres January 17.
14/20Watson, CBS
Television demands a Sherlock Holmes interpretation, and 2025’s is Watson, following the titular doctor as he investigates medical mysteries at his clinic following the death of his more famous partner at the hands of the evil Moriarty. Premieres January 26.
15/20Grosse Pointe Garden Society, NBC
A group of suburban friends turn to amateur sleuthing after a shocking event, and the cast is promising: Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb, Ben Rappaport, Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Aja Naomi King, Nancy Travis, and Felix Avitia.
16/20Adults, FX
This comedy-forward ensemble series is the latest in the grand tradition of “broke New Yorkers” television shows, this time about five friends crashing in one house and trying to help each other figure it out.
17/20Running Point, Netflix
It’s gender-bent Ted Lasso (complimentary). Kate Hudson stars as the unlikely owner of a fictional Los Angeles basketball team who has to prove her mettle in the boardroom and on the court in this Mindy Kaling-created comedy.
18/20Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix
This limited series tracks the rise of the wellness grifter, following two friends who set out to cure (or at least, look like they can cure) their very real illnesses through very woo-woo-methods. Starring Kaitlyn Dever.
19/20The Residence, Netflix
The latest from Shondaland is a whodunit set at the White House that’s more “wit and intrigue” than “scary assassin politics.” Premieres March 20.
Alison Cohen Rosa20/20The Gilded Age, Season Three, HBO
Someone described this show as “American Girl Dolls for adults,” and it’s so true. The stakes are wildly uneven and the sets and costumes are ridiculously lush. It’s soap silliness at the highest level, brimming with theater actors we can’t wait to see again.
