Dear readers,
This week I am posting a letter I received from a human who lost her cat and has searched for her for several years. So many of us have humans who have experienced such sadness, and maybe if you will show the letter to your people, they might write to Morgan’s person with some advice and information on how they handled such a situation.
Your friend,
Fisher
Dear Fisher,
My name is Melissa and I am writing in hopes that you might post this in an attempt to locate my lost cat Morgan. I have spoken with you through e-mail and I thought that if I had a picture, that might help. Morgan has been missing for nearly 4 years now. She is a polydactyl, striped kitty. Always was very sweet and loving. I searched for her for months when she first went missing and I just recently found your site and noticed a column about another kitty who looks so much like her. I would absolutely love to have her back, but if she is happy where she is, I just need to know that she is ok. I miss her so much! I found this picture taken when she was about 1 year old, maybe a little older. I hope someone recognizes her. Today she would be around 6 or 7 years old. If anyone has seen her, please contact me @ hopefloats34@hotmail.com. I just have to know that she is fine and has been for all of these years. Thank you to everyone who reads this.
With Love Morgan,
Melissa
It’s a new day, a new time. The old phrase, “who you gonna call?’ has a new best answer - the Geek Squad! You guessed it. It’s been a quiet week after the computer crashed. Boy, did I think I committed a major sin. I didn’t know if it was my exhuberance, or lack of thumbs or what, but all of a sudden, a users worst nightmare, right there on the screen in front of me.
“C-R-I-T-I-C-A-L E-R-R-O-R” Windows is shutting down. What????

My mind went into overdrive - do I wake up the Woman, do I just walk away and act like nothing happened, hide…what? Knowing my own penchant for pushing buttons just to see what happens, I decided the best thing would be to shut down, walk away, and take a nap - but with both eyes open to see how everything unfolds.
The Woman fussed awhile. I don’t really think she blamed me for anything, but I stayed out of the way after noticing a few glances in my direction while she was trying to figure out the problem. Then I heard her on the cell phone. (Another modern technology that I swear I am not going to even TRY!)
She pushed some buttons, chuckled a little, pushed some more buttons, and then began talking to someone on the other end. We were down for a week until … drum roll … Double Agent Garcia from the Geek Squad was at our condo, in the studio, and in charge of recovery. http://www.geeksquad.com
What a relief! And, we found out it was really nothing we had done. It was just a very strange quirky Windows thing. But, I can tell you, Double Agent Garcia stayed with it until the mystery was solved and the computer was restored back to just-like-new! Geek Squad is already penciled in on our calendar for a May, 2008, check up. Check it out - and even if you don’t need help right now, it is worth just listening to the voice prompts while you are getting directed to Service.
My advice for today: Have short mental list of “who you gonna call”. My suggestions - the police dept, fire dept, and Geek Squad. That should just about cover everything.
Mother’s Day - yesterday - and I had the computer to myself. I snooped on the net after the Woman’s son came and whisked her away to the beach for the day. Picnic lunch, two granddaughters, and the Man in tow, all were off for a fun-filled day.
But, back to my snooping…. I read a great story about Macavity the Bus Cat, and it made me think about how I, too, took an adventurous trip oh so many years ago - I was only about one month old. It was the day I said “good-bye” to my own mother. I don’t think I had that intention at all. But, on a very very cold day in Colorado, I left the bushes where me and Mom and litter mates made our home, and sought warmth near the motor of a car. I guess I was always a master napper, because while I slept, someone got into the car and started it up. My new life had just begun. I found out later that I traveled in that car for 20 miles. Well, I have to tell you, I was wide awake when the car stopped! For the next five hours, I kept pretty quiet, trying to figure out what to do next. Then, of course, hunger took over and I began to cry out. That’s when the Woman heard me and started to frantically search the parking lot to find me. She did, and I have been warm and well taken care of ever since. I couldn’t help wondering, though, about my own Mom on Mother’s Day.
And what about Macavity? He is older and wiser than I was when I took my trip. This guy gets on a bus! And, he gets off again! Fortunately he found the right driver - who has to be a really neat guy who appreciates the wisdom of a cat that will take a bus to the shops and dining, have a nice day, and then take the bus back home. Amazing what some of us can do when we really know what we want! It’s a great read…

My advice for today: First of all, never never ever climb up under the hood of a car to get warm. It is very dangerous. Secondly, good and honorable intentions lead to interesting and happy conclusions.
