Coyotes attack small pets
Be careful what you wish for
Even though you sit at the window for hours in a day, there are good reasons to stay inside!
Press Release
Kritter Kommunity Kondos help keep pets safe
Philadelphia, PA (August xx, 2010) – This summer has been especially bad for coyote attacks on pets across the country. Scientists believe that certain coyotes may be losing their fear of humans and pets because they are around them so much. Scientists also believe that a bounty of food and no natural predators are potential causes for the increase in attacks. Regardless of the reason for the increase, pet lovers are rightfully worried and are left wondering what to do.
Most recently, 4 cats were killed by coyotes in a quiet Florida neighborhood. Shortly after this attack, 3 cats were taken by coyotes in Massachusetts. Coyotes have recently been spotted roaming New York’s Central Park. A Chihuahua puppy in Colorado was taken by coyotes only to be saved by a neighbor’s pit bull. And who can forget Daisy, Jessica Simpson’s 5 year old maltipoo that was snatched by a coyote right in front of her eyes. The sheer horror of watching your pet hurt or injured is enough to make pet owners want to lock their pets inside forever.

That is really scary since my kitties go outside most of the time. But I just feel like they really love being outside and hopefully will run up a tree or under the house. I haven’t seen a coyote here but I am sure they are around.
Have a fantastic. day

We are SO not allowed outside, ever, and this is one of the major reasons! Out here in Southern California, we have always had to cope with coyotes.

Thanks cats for all your good words. Staff lady had 3 cats when she lived in a resort like townhouse complex outside of Minneapolis. Then she moved to Dallas and vowed the kitties would have to stay inside. She had nightmares about armadillos but the kitties were so miserable inside. She and her young son had to decide to let them live happy inside/outside instead of in complete misery inside. We know some cats are meant to be outside. All involved just have to accept the consequences. This is not a judgment statement.

We had a coyote run right through the yard back in the winter. I love animals, but this looked creepy, it was just such a scary sight. We tried to keep the cats in, but it’s impossible, they are escape artists. This is a very well populated town, I can’t even believe there is a coyote living around here. We haven’t seen it since, but it’s still scary and I wish there were some way of keeping the cats in.

Hi Rebecca – I probably couldn’t think of anything you haven’t already thought of. We were lucky our landlord put up a privacy fence and the cats can’t get out – but I watch them anyway because I don’t know what could get in. Since they were used to condo living with only a balcony, it hasn’t been hard on them. I have seen some products like an attachment to a window where they can sit outside the window (kind of like a little kitty porch) and then there are much bigger kitty porches, either detached or connected to a kitty door. It can get costly. I can try to find some examples if you like.

Yep, you sure are right and thanks for sharing that info. The coyotes ate two of my twitter pals and it was so very sad.

I am so sorry to hear that, Brian. It would be nice if the coyotes could be caught and transported into the wild, but I don’t even know where the wild is anymore.
