Freelancing feline on the prowl

Just ask Fisher

Just ask Fisher

Dear friends and readers of my newspaper column,

My column in the tbt*, St. Petersburg Times, will no longer appear due to a change in format. In other words, I am temporarily unemployed. Things change, as we all know. It happens. I view my early retirement as temporary because I am not giving up, nor will I discontinue responding to your letters and giving helpful advice. The difference is your letters will now appear on my blog.

I had the rare luxury of a terrific editor right out of the box.
Jay Cridlin, editor of the weekend Out There section, was always very supportive of my mission to offer help to those family pets with pressing issues. I could not have asked for more.

So, I offer a heartfelt thank you to Jay and his staff, and to all my readers who kept me in noms for over 2 years. Not bad for one small cat! Not bad at all.

I invite you cats and dogs, ferrets, birds, rabbits and others to still feel free to write to me. You can send your letters via my contact page on this blog or directly through my email, askfisher@gmail.com. All your friends who are not on the internet can still send letters and photos to Fisher Harris, 200 2nd Ave S 123, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. Photos will be returned along with a copy of the blog.

Your friend,
Fisher

What?!? As a fellow advice columnist, I think this is terrible. You offer something far more valuable than, say, those silly gossip writers! This news made my human say a bunch of nasty things about publishers. (As a former magazine editor, she has always had a bit of a testy relationship with publishers.) I’m glad this is not stopping you from offering much-needed advice!

Thanks Sparkle – I knew right away we were kindred spirits. As always, I love your writing and advice and really appreciate your support.

Well that is really too bad that you lost your job. Hope you can find another one. Wish I could help you. I do know a forum that people are always asking for advice. It is called PetPeoplesForum.com Maybe you could get a name for yourself and some other newspaper might hire you. Good luck.

We’re very sorry your column is no longer published in that newspaper, but we’re very glad we still get to enjoy your great advice here. We hope you find other great opportunities for your column and writing elsewhere too. We think you are awesome!

A sad day for everyone at my human’s home – we will miss you in the TBT, but will keep reading the Ask Fisher blog.

Fisher, have you considered the possibility of adding a Fisher the Fact-Cat Fact-Checking segment to your blog ? There is so much mis-information out there about animals…

Hi Sandy – Thank you for your continued support, Sandy. My but you have come up with a very neat idea here. I will definitely think this one over! – Fisher

Well Fisher, time to stay positive, right? When one door closes another one opens, usually an even better opportunity! We do enjoy your blog very much and are glad that you’ll still be part of the blogosphere.
