It’s another Monday! New beginning to a new week - I love it. And…an interesting subject sent to me by my friend Fancy. “Why do cats need to drink out of other people’s bowls, even when they have their own special bowl? Who would leave their specially aerated fountain to drink out of the dog’s stale old standing water?” There could be several reasons.
First is, cats tend to be very organized (and quite opinionated). A water glass sitting on a table with no human in site, is out of place and must be dealt with. I know of a cat that just can’t keep her little nose out of it! Of course, things become rightfully organized when the glass starts sliding off the table, then becomes a heap of broken glass on the floor, and the human runs into the room and sweeps it up off the floor. Walla! All is well - and organized again.
Or, even though they have their own water dish, and in the case of Fancy’s housemate who has an AERATED FOUNTAIN - which by the way I am going to start visualizing in my feeding corner - drinking out of Fancy’s water bowl could be an act of socializing. It could be a case of letting Fancy know that her water is just as good, and all is well in their world. And having shared that special moment at Fancy’s water dish, the underlying message would be…”And oh, by the way, you don’t have to come over and drink from MY fountain.”
The third thought that comes to mind is a saying my human uses when things are just gone awry: “There’s a pony in there somewhere!” She tends to be very optimistic and that is her answer to most unexplainable difficulties, and makes her feel better. So…is it possible that cats have their own saying? “There’s a fish in there somewhere”?
FYI - this weekend I am working on site maintenance (aka corrections). If you find on your visit that something might not be working right, it probably isn’t! But it will.
